Calorie hunt
Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 9:12 PM In my effort to gain weight and get my BMI back into respectable territory (I must say, feeling sick with anxiety did me no favors in the eating healthily department. Or the eating department, actually) I've been looking for ways to up my daily caloric intake.
I find chips and queso do the trick quite nicely, since we're out of ice cream. Only 6 more pounds!

Way to go!
Did you know that by drinking Jamba Juice, you are consuming extra unneeded (for some) calories? I took a Nutrition class during winter session and asked her what I should eat to gain weight to fit in my dress. She said the first thing she cuts out of her overwieght patients' diets is Jamba Juice. I don't know if increasing Jamba Juice intake will help increase weight but I think it is a tasty possiblity.
Proteins, Carbs, Lipids, and alcohol are the four foods that contain calories so by increasing those in your diet that should help increase your wieght. Extra Protein is actually probably already occuring in your diet. Typically, Americans get 2 times the amount of Protein needed for a healthy diet. Also, eating the raw versions of foods such as fruits and vegetables is an excellent way to recieve all of the calories instead of only the partial amounts you recieve when the food is cooked. However, I should also say that BMI is actually an inaccurate measurement for healthy body weight. It is more applicable to large groups than the individual. The way to best figure out your actual body weight would be to get measured in either water or a "BodPod". "BodPods" are a newer form of measurement that measures you by displaced air. You can also have someone measure you with calipers. Although this does not give you an accurate percentage of body fat verses muscle when performed by a trained professional you can get a pretty accurate reading within about a 2% margin of error. Also increasing your snack intake and lowering your daily energy expenditure should increase your weight.
Another option is muscle building exercises. If you would like I can bring my children's exercise book with me on Saturday to help you find exercises that you can do with Val and Elaine to increase your personal muscle amount. However, women typically develop more of a fat layer than muscle so I still think increasing your calorie intake would be the healthiest option. I know it's hard when fighting against a quick metabolism but I know you can do it!
If you have specific questions, my aunt was actually a nutrition major and can help with diet (as in what you intake, not losing weight) planning.
Hope that helps in your quest! See you tomorrow!
