I have always loved old photos, but these are especially fascinating to me. My maternal grandfather was born and raised in Brooklyn. Told me stories about earning money shining shoes and then riding the subway back home. He was there when it looked like this:

I wish he were still here to tell me again. I love seeing history throught the eyes of the people who were there. There is so much to learn if anyone would just listen.


  1. I wonder what people will be nostalgic about from today in another 50 years.

  2. I love the change from no graffeti to totally covered graffeti. I guess that's the real difference between the 30s and 70s.

  3. I love looking at old pictures, too. Also, I like pictures of abandoned places. Something about the echo of a time gone by just resonates with me, though some people find it creepy...
