Early one morning just as the sun was rising

This morning I was awakened by a piercingly cheery little voice exclaiming, "LOOK, Mommy! The sky is pink!"

Perhaps a better mother would have floated out of bed, happy to scoop up her oldest daughter and cuddle while watching the sunrise and gladly welcoming a beautiful new day.

This mother groaned and said the following, "Val, please turn off the hall light. And yes, the sky is pink. Go back and watch it more. You might miss some other colors! Hurry!" Then I rolled over and hoped she wouldn't wake up Elaine. She did, of course, as evidenced by the excited shrieks a few minutes later.

This mother is not a morning person.

  1. That is just what I would've done. I particularly enjoy hearing that someone else throws in something good-sounding like "you might miss some other colors." The great thing about God, though, is that He didn't just put pink in sunrises--sunset pink is even better:).
