Google-lover

I'm increasingly attracted to Google.

I've been using Gmail since we've canceled Comcast and I am quite happy with mail and also with Google Reader. Google also has free Apps that will let me use gmail with my domain, something that has not been so simple with GoDaddy. Supposedly I already have beck@superbeck.com, but I have never been able to actually send and receive mail there. Google Apps for my domain will make this possible and easy, but first I have to figure out how to confirm with Google that I am the owner/administrator of superbeck.com. I don't know what is meant by CNAME or something like that. Google said it would be in my DNS settings at GoDaddy and I tried to do what I thought they told me to do but GoDaddy said "ERROR." Also my site is hosted for free by Wordpress so could that have anything to do with it? I had to put three DNS thingys up for Wordpress. I know just enough to know that I don't know nearly enough. I'm sure I could figure it out on my own in a matter of hours but I don't have the hours to read up and study everything. Hopefully Superman can help me out. I wish I was more geeky but not enough to make it a high priority when I have free time. =)

Anyhow, all this to say that I'm also increasingly frightened by Google. Their stated mission is to "organize the world's information" which is hard to do unless you HAVE the world's information. Google is slowly getting more and more of my information. I've been annoyed that they're now connected with Blogger and so up to now they haven't been connected to my current blog. Except that I'm now going to use my domain name email with gmail. And ALSO the idea of a Google phone is far more attractive to me than the iPhone and so I'll be looking forward to that development. All they need now is the Google bank and BOOM, Google bar codes and they're the anti-christ! AAAAAAH!

I'm so afraid. Google is watching.

  2. I love the Google, too. Even if it is slightly creepy to have it underlying so many things, it was a rather nice surprise a second ago to go to blogger (on a diff computer) and have it automatically sign me in because I'm already on gmail. Glorious.

  3. Google has owned blogger since 2003 or 2004 and are just now making it an Open ID platform, so any blog account can leave comments and get link backs. I actually prefer aol mail, it is cleaner and easier to work with.

  4. Some of the ads that Gmail shows me I find disturbing. Sometimes they're oddly apropos, but other times they seem way out in left field. I'd give an example, but I'm feeling too lazy at the moment.
