Guilt-free

I have been a mother for nearly six months and I can honestly say after several moments consideration that I have yet to feel guilty about anything concerning Kate. Odd, don't you think? I wonder when it'll come? Feel free to do your best to induce guilt trips in the comments... =)

  1. I thought it worked the other way: that you're supposed to make her feel guilty about stuff. ':P (In which case, it's still too early.)

  2. The only time I've ever felt guilt with my kids is when I've let them down by not holding to my word because of something I couldn't control. I don't think you'll get to that point for awhile! Enjoy her innocence... I've got an 11 year old going on 16 year old daughter who is driving me absolutely up the wall with attitude.

  3. On further contemplation I believe I will begin feeling guilty as soon as we begin the discipline aspect of parenting (did I respond appropriately? What if I don't understand?), or after she starts talking (should I have spent more time answering her questions? was I too harsh/abrupt/rude? Alas! She's ruined forever!).

  4. Why are you supposed to feel guilt? Is that a requirement of proper motherhood? Your lack of guilt is probably evidence that you're a pretty good mother. Keep it that way and stop trying to feel guilty.

  5. I don't get it. Are mothers supposed to feel guilt? In that case, how dare you not! You're going to cause her to grow up in a healthy, free environment, and she won't be able to identify with her peers' angst and resentment. Her gangsta rap career is over before it began.
