Work work go away...

Work no more! I get to sit around with my baby and be PAID for it! Love this system of maternity leave.

Sleeping in has lost much of it's appeal due to the fact that the longer I remain in bed the more uncomfortable I become. I did sleep until 7 am this morning (2.5 whole hours extra!) at which point my hips could no longer take it.

Things are getting done slowly around here. Many people ask us "so is the nursery all ready for the baby?" without realizing that for us this isn't just a simple small-talk type question. We aren't going to reply with a beaming, "oh yes! Everything is in it's place." We reply with a cheerfully honest, "well the drywall has been installed" or "the electrical is mostly completed" or "there's a good chance that it will be weather-proof within a week or so." Observing their reactions upon hearing the answer is amusing.

I then try to convince them to please don't feel sorry for me/us, really, I knew this would be the case going into it. Space heaters are perfectly fine even if there is only a tarp covering a large, window-sized hole in the wall. The baby will sleep in our room for a while anyhow. When it is time for her to move, she won't care that the drywall hasn't been taped or textured or that her changing table is the top of an old sewing machine. I honestly (really really) don't care either which I think is difficult for some of my mom friends to understand.

  1. I could handle that too if I had a SUPERMAN husband who could do all the cool things yours can including building the double doghouse if he ever does.

One of my brothers slept in a dresser drawer for a while. No negative residual effects. Unless he has some weird drawer phobia. I'll ask him and get back to you on that one :)

  3. I love that you guys are doing things your own way and at your own pace. I have friends who keep their crib in the coat closet because there's nowhere else it will fit, and another set of friends who use a laundry basket as a bassinet. Babies don't care as long as you love them, right?
