Insight

Nearly dusk on a cool fall day and Superman worked quickly to move and stack the logs of a tree that had threatened to intrude upon the foundation and roof of my grandparents house. I kept him company (probably rambling about one of my college classes) while pacing up and down a flatbed trailer. Eventually he stopped to rest and walked over to me, wrapping his arms around my waist. I stood above him on the trailer and looked down as I paused in my monologue. As he looked back up at me a strange expression came over his face and he said, "I just saw my daughter in your eyes. "

I think what he saw surprised him as much as what he said surprised me. It would be a few more years until our engagement.

In just a matter of days he won't need to look into my eyes anymore.

  1. At first I thought this recently happened, and I was thinking, "What on earth are you doing, standing in a flatbed when you're this pregnant?"But then I figured out this was way in the past and whatnot.(The college rambling should have tipped me off.)
